2010 PASSING THE TORCH

The 8th Annual Washington State High School Metal Arts Exhibition
sponsored by the Seattle Metals Guild


The exhibition will be held at The Washington State History Museum in Tacoma April 14 through May 23, 2010. The awards ceremony is on Saturday, April 17, 2010, which will coincide with the museum's festival "With Our Hands". All participating artists will be honored on this day between 3:00pm – 5:00pm. Prizes will be awarded in the categories of Jewelry, Sculpture/Holloware, and a special category this year, Best Washington State Icon (a work of metal sculpture or jewelry which represents Washington State).

Each school may submit up to six entries - maximum one entry per student. Possible suggestions include earrings, necklaces, crowns, armor, rings, grills, belt buckles, hand-held sculptures, wall sculptures, free standing sculptures, kinetic sculptures, etc., etc., etc. Please note, artwork exceeding 12" x 12" x 12" or weighing over 20 pounds will not be accepted.

Juried Competition and Prizes:

Artwork will be judged on its creativity and craftsmanship. The jurors will determine which work will be exhibited and will award prizes in the categories of Jewelry, Sculpture/Holloware, and Best Washington State Icon. Wall pieces must be ready to hang. Work made from kits is not allowed. Only original artwork will be considered. No licensed images or logos may be used. All artwork must have been created within the 2009-2010 academic year in the high school classroom. There is a limit of six entries per school, with a maximum of one entry per student. Sculptures must be no larger than 12" x 12" x 12" with a maximum weight of 20 lbs.


Application Process

Artwork may be hand-delivered or shipped via UPS (with pre-paid return shipping enclosed) to Danaca Design (address below).

A separate entry form and artist statement must accompany each piece.

Mailed artwork must be received by Friday, April 2, or it will not be accepted.

If you are delivering artwork, you may do so on March 28 or April 3 from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Danaca Design.

Please note that the exhibition will be closing at 3pm on Sunday, May 23rd and that all art work without pre-paid return shipping must be picked up between 3:00pm - 5:00pm that day at the Washington State History Museum. All uncollected art work will be disposed of.

If possible, please enclose a disk of photos of your students working on their projects when you submit the artwork. Please name the photo files with the names of your students.
